What color and pattern of socks should men wear with dress shirts and pants?
Q. I am a 30 year old professional. My dress code is usually dress pants, dress shirt and a tie on some occasions. I would like to know how to combine my clothes with my socks. Should the socks be made to match the shoe color, pants color, etc. I saw someone recently with a multicolored stripped socks with bright colors (purple, red, green, etc) and found it strange. I tend to go with just plain black, gray or brown. Any advice on color, patterns?

A. First of all, no one really should see your socks. However, I would recommend getting an argyle pattern. Here is an example: This pattern is very nice looking and very versatile. I have also seen more um... flamboyant dressers match their socks to their ties. However, this is only effective if you have a brightly colored tie to begin with. Guys on TV often wear bright red ties, have a red handkerchief tucked into their coat pocket and wear red argyle socks. If that is too flamboyant get a neutral colored pair of argyle socks. They are very professional looking.

What color to paint interior of a rental home with brown carpeting?
Q. The landlord says that any paint we use has to be a shade of white.. ie: Pale colors. The color up already is a weird clay color.. rather gross actually. We have a brown shaded carpet..splotches of darker browns and cremes... My fiance prefers blues, I like neutrals and then a splash of color..such as cherry red, or burnt orange. We have a bedroom, living room, and a "reading" room to paint. All are fairly small.. bedroom and "reading" room are 10 X 10 feet..and the living room is 9 x 17 feet, with a weird corner. Our furniture basically matches the flooring. Okay. A. I understand. Here are just a few suggestions. I used to do this stuff years ago, and this might give you some ideas of how to approach decorating that you might not have thought about before. You can go to any major paint store and get sample of various shades of off-whites and creams. Take a few and see how they fit in with your decor and furniture. (Don't rely on the names of the paints or shades--different manufacturers have different names for exactly the same shade of paint ! ) Then, consider your lighting. To get the exact shade of paint that is right, you should look at the paint samples in the room you intend to paint, and with natural sunlight from windows at various times of the morning, day and afternoon. What color furniture should I buy for an orange living room?
Q. I am in the process of painting my living room an orangey-gold color. The next room is camel colored, and the main accent wall is chocolate brown. My carpet is a dark burgundy-brown color. I am not sure what color to go with for the sofa and love seat. I want leather, but I am torn between black or a dark chocolate brown. Any advice?
